Julia LaShae

Watching Julia LaShae perform the jazz standards of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s is like taking a step back into time. With her striking presence and vocal grace she takes listeners and dancers on a melodic journey filled with upbeat swing and traditional jazz songs, lively Latin rhythms and beautiful torch songs.

A native Texan, Julia left for New York after college to study at the prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy. There she studied voice and acting, focusing primarily on the old musicals from which most jazz standards come. After completing her studies, she moved to New Orleans and immediately became the featured singer with New Orleans’ premiere swing band, Johnny Angel & the Swingin’ Demons.

Julia has appeared with Johnny Angel & the Swingin’ Demons at venues all over the country, including DisneyWorld, political parties in Washington DC , the National D-Day Museum, and a special ceremony held by the City of Houston for surviving Medal of Honor winners. She has lent her voice and on-screen presence to a Canadian television production entitled "Le Madame Consul", as well as a 1940’s era feature film entitled The Rising Place, which will be released on video this spring. Other groups that Julia has appeared with in New Orleans include the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, the Port of New Orleans Jazz Band and Swing Set, an Andrews Sisters tribute band.

Now with her own jazz combo, Julia performs at many private functions, as well as some of the finest hotels and restaurants in New Orleans, including the Ritz-Carlton and the Bombay Club. She will also appear in three upcoming feature films, Tempted starring Burt Reynolds, The Life of David Gale starring Kevin Spacey, and Love Liza starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Julia and her unique style of music can be available for your next high toned function. If you need to add a little touch of style and class, this lady and her group of merry musicians are ooh la la.
